Our Story: Handmade in Bali
Shiva Urban brings together traditional Balinese craftsmanship, natural materials, and my personal connection to the country where I was born.
Why I Started Shiva Urban
Hello, I’m Lisa Clark (pictured right), founder of Shiva Urban. I was born and raised in Tulungagung, a small town in East Java, Indonesia, and now call Safety Harbor, Florida, home.
After 25 years in the nonprofit world, I found myself wanting to reconnect with Indonesia in a more personal way. Shiva Urban grew from that desire—to share the craftsmanship I love while creating continued opportunities for the artisans who make each bag.
Today, I work directly with Mr. Putu, his wife, and a small group of skilled weavers from Tenganan, Bali. They create Shiva Urban’s handmade wicker handbags, woven straw purses, crossbody bags, and totes using natural ata grass and traditional techniques passed down through generations.
At a time when so many accessories are mass-produced for fast fashion, my hope is to help preserve this beautiful craftsmanship and share it with women who value something more personal and meaningful. Every purchase supports these artisans and their families while helping traditional Balinese weaving continue for future generations.

How Your Bag Is Made
Handwoven in Bali—natural ata vine is carefully woven by hand into each bag's distinctive shape and pattern.
Dried under the Bali sun—the woven pieces are dried naturally before the traditional curing process begins.
Cured over coconut husks—the bags are gently smoked over coconut husks, helping create their rich toasted-brown color and distinctive subtle aroma.
Finished by hand—leather details, closures and colorful batik linings complete each bag.
